The Pirates took the rubber match 5-1 to win the series and move to 41-40, back above .500. The homers did most of the work and the pitching held Seattle to a single run.

Brandon Lowe got it going with a solo shot in the first, his 19th of the year. Then in the third, Henry Davis went deep with Jared Triolo aboard to make it 3-0. Davis had a big afternoon, two-for-three with the homer, a double, and a stolen base, which is a nice day for a guy who hasn’t provided much offensively.

Bubba Chandler took the ball and pitched a good outing. He went 5.1 innings and allowed one run on five hits with four strikeouts. The lone run came in the fifth on a J.P. Crawford single that scored Mitch Garver. Chandler has had his rough starts this season, so an outing like this is a good sign for him moving forward.

The bullpen finished it off. Sisk, Ramírez, Montgomery, and Soto combined for 3.2 scoreless innings the rest of the way. That makes three straight games in this series where the pen held its end.

The bats tacked on two more in the eighth. Davis doubled and came around on a Lowe single, and O’Hearn drove in the fifth run with two outs. Bryce Miller pitched well for Seattle, 5.2 innings with 11 strikeouts, but the two homers off him were the difference.

Winning a series against the team sitting atop the AL West and getting back over .500 is a good few days of baseball. On to the next series.

01

The homers carried it. Brandon Lowe and Henry Davis both went deep off Bryce Miller, and those two swings were most of the offense.

02

Chandler gave them a good one. 5.1 innings of one-run ball for the win, a needed showing from a rotation spot that has been up and down.

03

The bullpen kept rolling. Sisk, Ramírez, Montgomery, and Soto combined for 3.2 scoreless to close it out — three straight games the pen did its job.
